Established by a Royal Charter in 1199 and reinstated in 1948, the Jurade de Saint-Emilion is certainly one of the oldest and most prestigious French wine brotherhoods. It was one of the founder members of F.I.C.B. in 1964, but had withdrawn since several years. Acknowledging the new developments of our federation and its increasing international exposure, the Jurade de Saint-Emilion has decided to join again. Its dynamism and the great events it organizes contribute to maintaining the traditions, the high quality and the reputation of the Saint-Emilion, appellation renown worldwide. As for the Confrérie Bachique Clorivière, it is the most recently created French wine brotherhood and the first to be connected to an institution of higher education. It was indeed founded in 2013 within the Institut Supérieur Clorivière in Paris, in the context of a programme and degree on wines and spirits. A vine has been planted for pedagogical purposes on the beautiful premises of the Institut, located near the Place de la Nation in Paris. Its building was financed in the middle of the 19th century by donations from the Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoléon III, and the City of Paris.
